Downloads and version history
Below is a list of major changes, with details in the Help files. Available for download (all are 32-bit applications for Microsoft Windows, but the recent versions apparently run well under Windows emulation software on Macintosh and Linux machines - your mileage may vary):
Version 3.5.1 (August 2003) download (5.5 MB) NOTE (7/2021): download server is not working, so please use my email address to send a request for a personal download link
- See: screen shots

- added automated assignment of colors, and handling of colors on the SeqPage
- right-click now allows selection of color in graphs or on SeqPage
- supports 20 built-in colors, and arbitrarily large list of user-defined
colors (which can be saved)
- support for identifying groups by a separator as well as by an ID length
- added support for display of Regions, at top or bottom of plot
- added QuickBootstrap, and option for deletion of workfiles generated by QuickTree
and QuickBootStrap - Enabled empiric window-by-window Ts/Tv estimation in bootscanning

- Improved labeling of vertical axis
- Improved support for non-US locales
- fixed bug in XP manifest that interfered with installation on some XP machines
- fixed various glitches that generated "range check" errors (did not affect results)
- fixed bug in ChartValuesToText, which was causing Range Check error
Version 3.2 (April 2002) download (3.9 MB)
- Many new features, including interactive informative sites analysis. Also some bug fixes, including problems with Locale settings that use "," as a decimal separator. See Version History for details.
- Runs under Windows 2000 and XP (as well as Win95/98/NT). Some users report that it works fine under Macintosh emulators, but I have not tested this.
- Does not require that PHYLIP is installed, though users should notify Joe Felsenstein that you are using the software since PHYLIP 3.5 code is embedded in version 3 of SimPlot (menu items under Help menu in SimPlot can make this easier for you, or you can register from this link: Register PHYLIP code)
- NOTE: some users of Windows 98 and Windows NT have had trouble using this version of SimPlot because of errors involveing "OLEAUT32.DLL". This is a Windows component that is needed for data export. To fix this, there are two main options (both free):
- upgrade your Internet Explorer browser to version 5.5 (service pack 2) or higher, or
- install an updated version of DCOM, which seems to be the culprit, and is available from MicroSoft: http://www.microsoft.com/com/tech/dcom.asp
Version 2.5 (March 18, 1999) download (1.2 MB)
- Now runs under Windows NT (as well as Win95/98)
- Note: bootscanning requires that you have installed PHYLIP (Windows 95 version, released 3/11/99).
- Click here to go to the PHYLIP ftp page (and download phylip95.exe).
- See documentation (included in download) for details.
Version 2.4 (March 5, 1999) download (1.2 MB)
- Bootscan arbitrary number of sequences
- Optionally save CONSENSE output files for viewing later
- Note: bootscanning requires that you have installed PHYLIP (386 DOS version).
- See documentation (included in download) for details.

- Documentation for this version (also included in download)
- Version 1.3 was the version used in:
